The math is pretty simple. All resale costs (such as shipping, processing, and listing fees) are deducted from the sale of items and the remaining proceeds go to the benefiting nonprofit. Mighty Good Things does not take an additional percentage, or fixed fee, out of the resale proceeds to cover our own overhead and administrative costs.
We handle support, legal, and accounting matters, and we rely on third parties to receive, process, and sell donated items. Our commercial partners are paid for the work they do out of resale proceeds.
Shipping & Logistics | e.g. Fedex, UPS, USPS, Amazon, EasyPost, Sella |
Resale Work | e.g. professional consignees, eBay Valet, Sella |
Resale Marketplaces | e.g. eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Poshmark |
Responsible Recycling | e.g. Goodwill, Savers, FreeGeek |
If you have the time and know-how, you should always consider selling items yourself and donating the proceeds directly to a nonprofit. When you choose to use Mighty Good Things, you can still do a lot to lower resale costs and increase the total resale proceeds. For example, bulky, low-value items add a lot to shipping expenses, and password-locked iPhones are sold for parts. Here are some more donation tips and guidelines.
